Jewel Dean Ford, 85, of New Deal, TX, went to meet her Lord Wednesday, October 26, 2016. Services will be 10:00 am Saturday in the First Baptist Church of New Deal with Rev. Danny Jackson officiating, assisted by Rev. Syl Moore. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy.
Jewel Dean was born July 26, 1931, in Bell County, TX to Clifford O. and Isla (Toliver) Boyd. She moved to Lubbock County in 1941 where she attended Idalou I.S.D. and then New Deal, graduating in 1948. She attended Draughn’s Business College. She married P. W. “Pete” Ford in 1950 who preceded her in death, June 22, 1997.
Jewel Dean was a member of the First Baptist Church of New Deal, where she had been a member for the last 71 years and had taught Sunday School for 58 of those years.
Jewel Dean had worked over the years as a homemaker, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal and for a friend, Ina Jean Wampler’s businesses, an addressograph business and the Donut Kitchen, and finally, Struve’s Dry Goods Store in Abernathy.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Boyd, April 15, 2009.
Survivors include her daughter, Melinda Flynn and husband Dan of Charleston, SC and 2 sons, Gregg and wife Kim of Abernathy and Chris and wife Cindy of Lubbock, a sister, Clara and husband Joe of Lubbock, grandchildren, Matthew Ford, Ashlee Ford, Whitney Ford, Landon Lutrick and wife Alita and Lyssa Casanova and husband James, 3 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews along with many wonderful, dear friends.
The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church of New Deal, P.O. Box237, New Deal, TX 79350.
The family will gather to receive friends and family at Abell Funeral Home on Friday, October 28, 2016, from 5:00 - 6:30 pm.
