Services for W.G. Laney, 86, lifelong resident of Hale Center,TX, were held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, September 27, 2005, at First United Methodist Church in Hale Center, TX, with Rev. John Erwin, pastor of Stamford First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial followed in the Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Hale Center, TX.
Mr. Laney died at his residence in Hale Center, TX, Sunday, September 25, 2005.
He was born December 20, 1918 to Amy Eubanks and J Earl Laney in Hale Center, TX. He married Frances Wilson on June 26, 1940 in Clovis, NM. She died June 17, 2000. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II, stationed at Catalina Island and served at Pearl Harbor. He was an area farmer and served on various Co-op Boards in Hale Center. He was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Lemond Masonic Lodge #832. He served as past president of International Texas Flying Farmers.
He is survived by 2 sons: Pete and Nelda Laney and Mark and Brenda Laney all of Hale Center, TX,
7 grandchildren: KaLyn Laney of Austin, TX, Jamey and Ronald Phillips of Lubbock, TX, J Pete and Melonie Laney of Austin, TX, Kim and Banon Ellison of Carrollton, TX, Ryan Laney of Venice, CA, Tyler and Kara Laney of Frisco, TX and Whitney Laney of Plano, TX. He is also survived by his 5 great grandchildren: Austin, Grant and Gavin Phillips, Christian Laney and Madison Laney.
