Services for Virginia "Virgie" Gonzales, 80, of Temple, TX, formerly of Hale Center, TX, were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2008 in St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Hale Center, TX, with the Rev. John Smith officiating. A rosary was recited Sunday, June 1, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Services were under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, TX.
Virgie died on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at her residence in Temple, TX after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born in Lubbock, TX on February 28, 1928. Prior to her moving to Temple in 2007, she lived in Hale Center from 1953-2007. Virgie was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church and a life long member of the Guadalupana's organization. A true example of a "caregiver" Virgie was always there for us, her parents and others in the community to lend her hand with an open heart and a smile.
Survivors include a brother, Albert Gonzalez and wife Merrilee of Temple, TX, five sisters, Annie Lucero of Clovis, NM, Nellie Garcia Hale Center, TX, Ramona Simpson and her husband Charles of
Belton, TX, Frances Hinojosa and her husband Beto of Lubbock, TX, and Ruby Jones and Jesse of Houston, TX, 38 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Virgie was preceeded in death by her parents, Victor and Ramona Gonzales, a brother, Joe Gonzales and sister, Mary Gonzales.
