Services for Sylvia Shackelford, 75, of Cotton Center, TX, were held at 2:00 pm Monday, December 22, 2003, in the Hale Center First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy Cameron, pastor, officiating.
Burial followed in the Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, TX.
Mrs. Shackelford died Saturday, December 20, 2003, in Plainview, TX.
She was born May 17, 1928 in Benjamin, TX. She married Howard Shackelford September 23, 1946 in Cotton Center. She lived in the Cotton Center Community for 57 years and was very active in the Cotton Center First United Methodist Church until it's closing. She then became a member of the Hale Center First United Methodist Church. She was a director for the Methodist Youth Fellowship, was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Hale Center Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Allan Mahagan and a grandson, Keith Mahagan, both in 1983.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Howard Shackelford of Cotton Center, TX,
3 daughters, Judy Harper and her husband, Larry of Walsh, Colo, Linda Patterson of Hale Center, TX and Carolyn Shackelford of the home.
1 brother, George Cornette of Hale Center, TX.
4 sisters, Marie Lewis, Jeanette Steen and Nell Rogers all of Hale Center, TX and Jean Curry of Tahoka, TX.
6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be sent to the Hale Center Senior Citizens.
