Rosary was recited for Selso Garcia, 83, lifelong resident of Hale Center, TX, at 7:00 pm, Sunday, March 19, 2006, in St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Hale Center, TX.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2:00 pm, Monday, March 20, 2006 in the same church with Rev. John Smith officiating.
Burial followed in Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, TX.
Mr. Garcia died Thursday, March 16, 2006 in the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Amarillo, TX.
He was born December 7, 1922 in Crosbyton, TX and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from January 29, 1943 to November 10, 1945. He married Nellie Gonzales on May 17, 1948 in Clovis, NM. He was an active member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church where he was a musician, a Sacred Heart member, a member of Cursillistas and served as a Eucharist Minister. He was also a member of VFW and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie Garcia of Hale Center, TX, 9 sons: Selso Garcia, Jr. of Hobbs, NM, David Garcia of Plainview, TX, Gene Garcia of Lubbock, TX, Rudy Garcia and Alvin Garcia both of Amarillo, TX, John Garcia of Harker Heights, TX, Joe Garcia and Raymond Garcia both of Hale Center, TX and Andrew Garcia of Barto, PN.
5 daughters: Christine Martinez of Burleson, TX, Vicki Garcia of Lubbock, TX, Patsy Gomez of Canyon, TX, Mary Ramon of Hale Center, TX, and Lionora Olvera of Plainview, TX.
Mr. Garcia is also survived by siblings, 4 brothers, Tony Garcia and Martin Garcia, both of Hale Center, TX, Claudio Garcia of VA and Manuel Garcia of Burley, Idaho, 5 sisters: Ruby Badillo of Lubbock, TX, Julia Rocha and Alice Caberra, both of Magna, UT, Stella Vargas of Hale Center, TX and Gloria Soto of Phoeniz, AZ, 46 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by 3 grandchildren, Toby Garcia, Seanda Garcia and Nicholas Garcia.
