Services for Zelda Meador Ford, 74, of Hale Center, TX, were held at 10:00 am Saturday, July 7, 2007, in the Hale Center First United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Waller officiating. Burial followed in the Center Plains Cemetery, Cotton Center, TX, under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, TX.
Mrs. Ford died Monday, July 3, 2007 in Hale Center.
Zelda was born August 23, 1932 in Prescott, Ark, to Luke G. Meador and Lucy Griffith Meador. She moved with her parents, sisters Dorothy and brother Adrian to the Cotton Center community in 1933, where her father was engaged in farming for several years. Zelda attended school in Cotton Center until 1947 when the family moved to Plainview, TX. She graduated from high school in Plainview and attended Lippert Community College. She was employed by both Hale Center Insurance Agency and Boyd & Davenport Insurance Agency for several years.
She married Orville Arthur Ford on November 3, 1951, and they are currently members of Trinity Fellowship Church in Plainview. After residing in Plainview for several years, the family moved to Lubbock in 1955, where Zelda attended Texas Tech University and received a degree in Broad Field Social Studies. She also received a degree in Program Leadership Education from Mt. Sequoyah. She taught World History at J.T. Hutchison Junior High School in Lubbock until 1975, when she took employment with Garrett & Garrett Insurance and REeal Estate. In 1985, Zelda and Orville returned to the family farm in Hale Center. In 1986, she bacame a substitute teacher for the Hale Center Independent School District where she worked until her retirement in April of 2007. In 1992, she was selected by the students of HCISD for inclusion in WHO'S WHO among American Teachers. Zelda truly loved teaching and working with students.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Dorothy Meador Mann of Hale Center and her brother, Adrian George Meador of Sacremento, CA.
She is survived by her busband, Orville, one son, Ronald and his wife Vicki of Hale Center, TX, a daughter, Robbie Anderson and her husband James of Amarillo, TX. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Shelli and Luke Ford of Hale Center, TX, Mary Anderson, Eve Law and husband Quentin,, Rachel, Elizabeth, Hannah, Thomas and David Anderson of Amarillo, TX, James L. Anderson of Provo, Utah, Samuel of Madrid, Spain and Adam of Los Angeles, CA, and a great granddaughter, Abagail Rene Law of Amarillo, TX.
The family suggests memorials be sent to the Hale County Farm and Ranch Museum, Box 834, Hale Center, TX 79041 or a favority charity.
