Services for Clayton Enger, 86, of Abernathy, TX, were held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 1, 2002, in the Abernathy First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dave Menefee officiating and Rev. Ron Kelley assisting.
Burial followed services in Resthaven Cemetery, Lubbock, TX, under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy.
Mr. Enger died in Lubbock, TX on Saturday, September 28, 2002.
He was born in Cranfills Gap, TX on August 17, 1916 and married Merle Howard on June 25, 1938 in Robertson, TX. He was employed for McIlhaney Creamery for eleven years as a milkman. In 1948 he moved to Abernathy where he farmed until his retirement in 1978.
He served as past president of the Lubbock County Farm Bureau and the New Deal Lions Club. He was on the Board of Directors of the Abernathy Co-op Gin and the Abernathy Co-op Grain. He was a member of the Abernathy Chamber of Commerce, Gas Users Association, Co-op Oil Mill, the Abernathy Country Club and the First United Methodist Church Choir. He helped organize the Water Inc. and was a charter member of the Abernathy Senior Citizens. He served as the Sunday School Superintendant and was a song leader at the Lakeview Methodist Church for 35 years and was a member of the Abernathy Community Choir.

1 son, Don Enger and his wife, Ruth of Shallowater, TX.
2 daughters, Beth Smith and her husband, Ken of Abernathy, TX and Sue Rhodes and her husband, Bud of Wimberly, TX.
6 grandchildren, Cherise Leon of Petersburg, TX, Greg Gist, Clay Enger and Camie Holcombe all of Lubbock, TX and Jeff Rhodes and Trey Rhodes both of Wimberly, TX.
3 great grandchildren, Rodney Leon, Kristen Leon and Averie Holcombe.
