Obituary of Dorothy Dorrell

Life Celebration services for Dorothy Dorrell, 86, of Abernathy, TX were held at 10:00 am Saturday, September 11, 2004, at the Abernathy First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Renae Phillips officiated. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the diretion of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mrs. Dorrell died Tuesday, September 7, 2004, in Lubbock, TX. She was born to Oliver Allen and Ethie Victoria Thagard Allen, April 7, 1918 in Floydada, TX. She married Layton Harold Dorrell in Clovis, NM, October 31, 1935. She moved to Abernathy in 1964, and was a member of the Rebekkah Lodge, and the First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the American Womens' Business Association and was named as their "Boss Of The Year". She was manager of the school cafeterias in Shallowater and Abernathy and was very active in the Abernathy Senior Citizens. She was preceded in death by her husband, April 24, 1991, and a grandson, Joseph Layton Burns, March 16, 1970. She is survived by a son, Glenn Dorrell of Durango, CO, 2 daughters, Gail Patton of Lubbock, TX, and Nita Burns of Albuquerque, NM, a brother, Irvin Allen of Woodlands, TX. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Connie Reynolds of Ruidoso, NM, Tracy Lattin of Los Alamos, NM, Jerry Gail Kentopp of Phoenix, AZ, Sam Patton of Irving, TX, Andrea Patton of Lubbock, TX, and Kate Dorrell of Durango, CO and 6 great grandchildren.
