Obituary of Terry Lee Martin

Private burial for Terry Lee Martin, 74, of New Deal, TX, will be held in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy. Mr. Martin died at his home, Tuesday March 5, 2024. He was born February 20, 1950 in Lubbock to Clarence Lee and Ollie Orene (Ford) Martin and was raised in New Deal where he was a graduate of New Deal High School. During his youth he was a rodeo clown for local rodeos in New Deal, Abernathy and the area. Terry spent his life serving others in Lubbock and Hale Counties. He worked for the New Deal Fire Department since 1977 and was a volunteer EMS paramedic for 24 years. He served as New Deal Fire Chief from 1981-1999. Terry was elected as Mayor of New Deal from 1986, and continued serving the community until 1992 as Mayor. Terry went on to work for the Lubbock EMS, serving there for 5 years. During all his community efforts he also was an x-ray technician for Covenant Medical for 20 years. Terry earned his pilots license, was an avid bow hunter and had been on 2 African Safaris. Terry was preceded in death by a son, Dustin Clay Martin, September 7, 1996. He is survived by a daughter, Mendi Border of Shallowater and a son, Brandon Martin of Ruidoso, NM, 2 grandchildren, Brynlee Border and Boston Border both of Shallowater, TX and a sister Sandra Gowens and husband Jimmie of New Deal.
