Obituary of Barbara Ann Lust

Services for Barbara Ann Hinkson Lust will be at 10:00am, Friday, December 15, 2023 at Aldersgate Church in Lubbock, TX with Ryan Smallwood, Senior Pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:00pm, Friday, December 15, 2023 at Lazbuddie Cemetery in Lazbuddie, TX. The family will gather to receive friends from 5:00 pm until 6:30 pm Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Abell Funeral Home in Abernathy, TX. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy. Mrs. Lust died Sunday, December 10, 2023 in Lubbock. She was born on November 5, 1936 in Clovis, NM to Frank and Lavonne (Mecham) Hinkson. Her childhood was spent on the family farm in Lazbuddie. While attending high school, Barbara worked as a correspondent for The State Line Tribune, graduating from Lazbuddie High School in 1954. Barbara then graduated Texas Tech, with her BS in Home Economics Education. After graduating in 1958, she took a job teaching Home Economics at Farwell High School in Farwell, TX. While at Tech, she met and fell in love with Glenn Lust from Dimmitt, TX. They were engaged in 1956, just before Glenn was drafted by the United States Army and sent to Germany. Their romance continued the next two years via letters. On December 20, 1958, a short two weeks after Glenn's return home, they were married in Lazbuddie Methodist Church in a beautiful Christmas wedding that was the beginning of their wonderful 65 years together. When the school year was over, the couple moved to Dimmitt and farmed with Glenn's family. In July of 1960, their daughter Judy was born and Barbara began staying home to raise her family. Later that year, the family moved to Lazbuddie to farm and ranch with Barbara's parents. Over the next 10 years, sons David, Mark, and Tim were added to the family. Once her children were grown, she returned to the classroom in 1987 at Lazbuddie, helping shape the lives of her students. She was a pro at running concession stands and organizing many school events. Barbara retired from teaching in 1999. She was a constant supporter of Glenn, their children, and grandchildren in everything they did, attending ballgames, track meets, stock shows, school activities, and anything else they were involved in. She helped Glenn around the farm, and taught and led many community activities. In 2005, they moved to Abernathy and she immediately embraced the community. Her greatest joy continued to be serving Jesus, through her church, the Emmaus community and her grief ministry. She was a member of Aldersgate Church in Lubbock and very involved in their Grief Ministry and other leadership roles, serving in anyway she was able. In 2006 a long time passion of hers was realized when she started working at Abell Flower Shop, retiring in 2017. In June of 2021, she and Glenn moved to Lubbock living at Wilshire Place. Barbara continued her servant heart when she began a Bible Study and taught the crafts class there at Wilshire. The Lust family expresses their gratitude for all those that helped take care of Glenn and Barbara over the last few years. Special thanks also to U.S. Renal North, Wilshire Place, Covenant Pallative Care, and the many others that visited, transported and loved on them like family. She is survived by her husband, Glenn, children Judy Cooper (Jim) of Matador, TX, David Lust (Angela) of Amarillo, TX, Mark Lust (Amy) of Omaha, NE, and Tim Lust (Lea Ann) of Abernathy, grandchildren, Clint Cooper of Fairbanks, AK, Cody Cooper of Matador, Clay Cooper of Big Timber, MT, Ty Lust (Brooke) of Midland, TX, Dru Lust (Taylor) of Shallowater, TX, and Blythe Lust of Minneapolis, MN, step-grandsons, Alex White of Omaha, NE and Anthony White (Heidy) of St. Louis, MO, 4 great grandchildren, Gryder, Benaiah, Nathan and Lydia Lust. She is also survived by a sister, Carolyn Pilgrim (Charles), brothers Mike Hinkson (Melinda) and Frank Hinkson (Marilyn), many cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
