Graveside services for Dorman Windell Allen, 87, of Abernathy, TX will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 6, 2021 in the Abernathy Cemetery with Rev. Damon Pearce officiating. The family will gather to receive friends from 6:00pm until 7:30 pm Friday, November 5, 2021 from at Abell Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy.
Mr. Allen died Wednesday, November 3, 2021, in Lubbock, TX.
He was born on January 13, 1934 in Lubbock County, TX to Alvin Howard and Gladys (Scott) Allen. Mr. Allen attended school in Shallowater, New Deal and Abernathy before graduating from Abernathy High School in 1953. While in high school, he played football and served as the team co-captain in 1953, and also participated in track running relays and throwing the shot and disc. Dorman married Nancy Jean Neis on May 30, 1954 in the First Baptist Church in Abernathy. They became members in 1955 where he taught Sunday School and served as a counselor for the Royal Ambassadors. Dorman and Nancy moved to the Eagle Springs Community west of Abernathy in 1960. He began driving a truck at the age of 19 and later began farming in 1959. Dorman also worked in machine assembly production and was an inventor through the years, eventually becoming a truck owner and operator from 1993 -2003. He retired from farming in 2010 and began enjoying his mornings sitting on the front porch drinking coffee. Mr. Allen loved his family and spent time with them watching ball games and camping. His family will always remember his love for chocolate & peanut butter malts and his striped coveralls that he wore so often.
Dorman is preceded in death by his parents, brother Duane Allen, sister and brother-in-law Barbara (Allen) & Bob Scott, sister Vaughdeen Allen Meier and son-in-law Johnny Hemphill.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Allen of Abernathy, 3 daughters Kathrina Hemphill of Abernathy, Cynthia Davidson and husband, Ricky, of Whiteface, TX and DiAnn Stone and husband, Don, of Abernathy, 6 grandchildren Joshua Hemphill and wife, Leisha, Kami Hemphill, Tanner Davidson and wife Jennifer, Courtney Pinkert and husband, Austin, Steven Stone and wife, Michelle, and Dustin Stone and wife, Stefanie, 11 great grandchildren Elliott, RyLee, Collier, Addison, Harper, Christian, Case, Gabby, Carly, Hannah, and Cole, brother-in-law Charlie Meier and wife, Susan, of Littlefield, TX, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
