Obituary of Harold Wayne Stillwell

Graveside services for Harold Wayne Stillwell, 85 of Abernathy, TX, will be held April 24, 2021 in the Abernathy Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Harold Wayne Stillwell was born on December 3, 1935 in Clarksville, TX to Vera Ola (Hamilton) Stillwell and Robert Diampus Stillwell. He passed from his earthly life on February 13, 2021 while battling with Supranuclear Palsy (Parkinson's). He was raised in Red River County of East Texas around Bogota and Clarksville. During his sophomore year of high school, his family moved to Abernathy where he graduated with the class of 1955 from Abernathy High School. He met the love of his life on a blind date in Lubbock, TX. Harold married Wilma Marie Smith on September 27, 1957 in Morton, TX. They made their home together for 58 years in Abernathy, TX. Harold served in the Marine Reserves. He loved being a part of the Abernathy community for 63 years. He was an active Abernathy Volunteer Fireman for over 20 years. He was a member and held several officer positions over the years for the local Lion's Club, where he loved selling brooms for the blind. He was a member of the Abernathy Chamber of Commerce where he planned and participated in many of the 4th of July parades and celebrations. He was an active member of the Antelope Booster Club during the 1970's and 80's. He served on the Abernathy City Council in the late 1970's and 80's. He absolutely had a servant's heart. Harold was a Royal Ambassador Leader/Teacher at the First Baptist Church. He and his wife, Wilma, served as chaperones for many youth trips associated with the First Baptist Church. He sang in the First Baptist Church Choir and the Community Choir. He taught various ages in Sunday School throughout the years. Harold was an active church member until the summer of 2015. Harold's career consisted of working for Joe Thompson's Implement as parts manager, a salesman for Montgomery Wards, and then settling in for 16 years as a salesman for Wolf Irrigation. In January of 1985, his dream of owning and operating his own business, Stillwell Auto Parts & Snappy Oil Change, was realized. He ran this business in Lubbock, Tx where he enjoyed working alongside his son and many of his son's friends that he would employ while they attended Texas Tech or South Plains College. He retired December 21, 2005. In his retirement years he loved being a part of the Senior Citizens and the "This N That" club. He especially loved delivering Meals On Wheels from his golf cart around town. He treasured his daily coffee time at H&H. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, fishing, attending Texas Tech Men's Basketball games, and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in their many activities. Harold was quite the handyman. He enjoyed piddling with "Do It Yourself" projects and helping grandchildren with their building repair projects. He loved listening to gospel and bluegrass music and attending Hoppy Toler’s Jamborees. Harold and Wilma moved from Abernathy to the Enlivant Santa Fe Place Assisted Living, Plainview, in November of 2015. In June of 2020, he moved to The Lometa Home, where he spent the last 7 months with some of the most compassionate caregivers. Donna Moreno, Diane Sepada, Suellen and Josh Bustemante, Sunny Mason, and Amanda Zamora from The Lometa Home and Casey Davis, Sandra Gibson, Anabel Perez, and Christina Leatherwood from Area Community Hospice will forever be loved and appreciated by our family. We were truly blessed with their love and care. Preceded in death by his wife Wilma (Smith) Stillwell (August 2, 2016), daughter, Amanda Curry (Oct. 8, 2019), and son-in-law, Larry Curry (Dec. 29, 2020). One sister, Bobby Strickland; and two brother's, Dean Stillwell and Johnnie Stillwell. Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Belt and husband Kevin of Plainview, TX; a son, Randal Stillwell and wife Terri of Lake Alan Henry, TX; and two brothers, Jimmy Stillwell and wife Pat of Henderson, TX; Ronal Stillwell and wife Becky of Dallas, TX. Eight grandchildren, Jonathan Curry and wife Carolyn of Abernathy; Levi Curry and wife Shana of Abernathy; Candace Parmenter and husband Michael of Lubbock; Maddie Hallman and husband Grant of Houston, TX; John Calvin Belt and wife Cassandra of Cross Roads, TX; Katee Garza and husband Chris of Lubbock; Tyson Knight and wife Haley of Abernathy, and Tiera Knight, of Austin, TX; and 14 great grandchildren: Carson, Justus, and Carter Curry; Layken and Kelbi Curry, Vivienne and Claire Parmenter, Gunnar Hallman, Gideon, Joseph, and Ezekiel Belt, and Braelynn and Aubrie Knight, and Tanden Talley.
