Graveside services for Dorothy Jo Boggus, 91, of Abernathy, TX, will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 16, 2021, in the Center Plains Cemetery, Cotton Center, TX, with Rev. Janet Edwards officiating. The family will gather to receive friends at Abell Funeral Home, 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Friday, January 15, 2021. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy.
Mrs. Boggus died Wednesday, January 13, 2021, in Abernathy.
She was born March 21, 1929 to Roy Valentine and Lima Leota (Lacewell) Taylor. She was an only child, raised in the Idalou and Becton, TX areas in the midst of the Great Depression. She began school at Becton until they merged with Idalou school. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Deal. She married Dan Moody Krause, April 20, 1947, he preceded her in death June of 1953. She later married Mel. J. Boggus, May 22, 1965. She moved to Abernathy in 1966 and transferred her church membership to the Abernathy First United Methodist Church. She was a God fearing woman and loved the Lord with a passion. She was a gardener and was involved in the Abernathy Gardening Club. She was a seamstress and sewed clothing for her cats and dogs. She farmed in Hale County and was very knowledgable about the farming business and all aspects of it. She loved life and was devoted to genealogy. She was very private, hardworking and had a great memory.
Mrs. Boggus was preceded in death by husbands, Dan Moody Krause and Mel J. Boggus, August 31, 2018 and a son, David Krause, December of 2006.
She is survived by a daughter; Debby Chamlee and husband Danny of Lubbock, TX, 2 grandsons, Tanner Joe Chamlee of Ft. Worth, TX, and Todd Mikkel Krause of Lubbock and a brother-in-law, Arnold Boggus of West Covina, CA.
