Burial will follow in the Hale Center Cemetery, under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy.

Patsy Ruth (Brownd) Greenwood passed from this life Sunday, September 22, 2019. She was born May 6, 1925 in Hale Center, TX to H.L. “Jack” and Hollie Brownd.  She was the sixth of eight children.

Patsy, or Pat, attended schools in Hale Center and graduated from Hale Center High School in 1940.  Upon graduation, she attended Draughn’s Business College in Plainview to receive a degree for clerical/secretarial employment and worked as a secretary in Dumas and Amarillo while waiting for her beloved Tom (Sid) to return from overseas during World War II and for a few years in Lubbock after marriage while Tom completed college.

Pat married her lifelong friend and sweetheart, Thomas Sidney Greenwood, May 26, 1946 in her oldest sister Katherine’s home in Abernathy, TX.  They were able to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary before Tom passed about a month later on June 29, 2016.

Her husband, Tom, was a Textile Engineer and they lived in quite a few towns, building an involved life in each as Tom helped create, bolster and manage various factories.  Upon Tom’s college graduation from Texas Tech, they moved to Waco TX, and subsequently McClean TX, Post TX, Pampa TX, Cordell OK, Bridgewater MA, Purcell OK, Mesa, AZ and Cordell, OK again.  They retired in Cordell, but, moved one more time to Amarillo in 2005.

Pat was the consummate “stay at home” Mom.  Her “work” was taking care of her family, maintaining the household, cleaning, cooking, and establishing herself in each town she lived in.  She loved cleaning, sewing, cross-stitch, studying and educating about health and herbal remedies, and cooking.  She was an organizer, scheduler, planner.  While the kids were growing up, she was a Sunday School Teacher, Girl Scout Leader, Boy Scout Den Mother.  Once the grandchildren started coming, she loved to have them visit and was devoted to spoiling them as much as she could.  She loved to play golf, socialize with friends and sorority sisters, plan birthday and holiday celebrations for family.  She was not a demonstrative person about her faith but always was more than ready to pray and sing songs of faith and praise.  A family gathering was never complete unless time was spent around a piano singing. She joined Beta Sigma Phi service sorority later in life and was a very active member.  She was a 28-year survivor of breast cancer.

Pat is survived by 2 daughters Sandra Reeves and husband Jim of Beaver, Oklahoma, and Pat Greenwood of Amarillo, TX; 2 sons, Tom Greenwood and wife Susan of Hurst, TX, and Joe Greenwood and wife Pam of San Angelo, TX; 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; 1 sister Barbara Burnett and husband Kenneth of Cotton Center, TX and many beloved nieces and nephews as well as family friends Lillie Rogers, Rhonda Schuelke and Caregiver Turned Dear Friend Vonna Kistler.  She was preceded in death by her husband, an unborn child, her parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.  The family wishes to especially thank all of the loving and caring staff at Ruby Slippers Care and Autumn Leaves of Amarillo for the love given to Mom during the last years of her life when dementia took its toll.

Donations may go to a favorite charity, the Alzheimer’s Association, Autumn Leaves of Amarillo, Ruby Slippers Care, American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
