Graveside services for Earnest Hemphill, 87, of Abernathy, TX, will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, November 20, 2017, in the Abernathy Cemetery with Rev. Mike O'Donnell, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. The family will gather to receive friends from 4:00pm until 5:00 pm, Sunday, November 19th, at Abell Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy.
Mr. Hemphill died Friday, November 17, 2017, in Lubbock, TX
He was born May 8, 1930 in Collin County, TX, to Earnest Lee and Ruby Mae (Daily) Hemphill. He married Dorothy Jean Peggram, September 20, 1950, in Petersburg, TX. He had lived in Abernathy since 1952 moving from Petersburg, TX. He was a Baptist and was employed as a farmer for Carl Phillips, L.A. Johnson and Don Peggram.
Mr. Hemphill was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy on February 28, 2011, son, Johnny on October 27, 2005, daughter, Martha Sue Peck, January 3, 2017, 1 brother, Samuel David Hemphill and 2 sisters, Annie Ruth Lebow and Lena Mae Acree.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Jean Waters and husband Lee of Abernathy, TX, daughter-in-law, Kathrina Hemphill of Abernathy, son-in-law, Joe Peck of Paducah, KY, 4 grandchildren, Joshua Hemphill and wife Leisha, Kami Hemphill, Earick Waters and wife Espy and Elisabeth Waters, and 1 great grandson, Elliott Hemphill.
