Eliboria "Ellie" Lydia Saenz Gomez
August 2, 1924 - January 12, 2015
Ms. Gomez has gone home to rest in peace with our heavenly father. She passed away on January 12th, 2015, in Lubbock, TX.
Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Tuesday, January 13th, in the Family Center at Abell Funeral Home, Hale Center, TX. Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am Wednesday, January 14th at St. Theresa Catholic Church with Rev. John Smith officiating. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Hale Center, TX.
Ellie was born August 2, 1924 in Rio Grande City, TX where she graduated from Rio Grande High School and moved to Hale Center in 1950 and where she later built her home in 1976. She raised a daughter, two sons, and a granddaughter. She was a long time resident of Hale Center until 2010 when she moved to Lubbock to be with her family.
Ms. Gomez worked for 50 years in Hale Center and Plainview as a nurse and a home health care provider and was also known as the Avon Lady for over 25 years. In her pastime she loved to garden and tend to her rose bushes of every color. She also loved music and liked to sing Gospel songs & church hymns. Ellie was a woman of faith and family. She was a sweet lady who was strong, caring, giving, and opened her heart and home to anyone in need. She never met a stranger she didn't know. She was a devoted Mother and loving grandmother.
Ellie is preceded in death by her parents Luis & Anna Saenz, her brother Leonel Saenz, two sisters Aurelia Nagle & Carlotta Smith, her daughter Elma Gloria Saudia, and her son Leo Gomez.
Ellie leaves behind a son Rudy Gomez & wife Christina Gomez of Houston, TX, the granddaughter she raised, Leesa Gomez Galvan & husband Ralph Galvan of Lubbock, TX, one brother Joel Saenz & wife Clo Saenz, sisters Rosa S Fields, Zulema S Cheesman & husband Herb Cheesman, Rebecca Vargas all of San Antonio, TX and Nora Wilson & husband Jim Wilson of The Villages, FL. She was also blessed with seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
The family would also like to thank Lakeridge Nursing home & Rehab and Accolade Hospice of Lubbock for the care and kindness they showed Ms. Gomez.
