Obituary of Bob Parks

Memorial services for Bob Parks, 83, of New Deal, TX, will be held at 11:00 am Friday, January 9, 2015, in the New Deal First Baptist Church. The family will gather at Abell Funeral Home to receive friends from 6:00pm until 7:30pm, Thursday, January 8, 2015. Cremation services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Mr. Parks died Wednesday, December 31, 2014, in Lubbock, TX. He was born July 13, 1931 in Mt. Pleasant, TX to Joe and Ida (Waldrip) Parks. He joined the National Guard after school and married Kathaleen Sinor on May 2, 1952 in Clovis, NM. He was a Scout Master for Troop 481, president of the Abernathy Baseball Association for several years, and taught the Young Men's Sunday School class at Northside Baptist Church. He was involved in the cotton warehouse business for over 35 years and was a member of the New Deal First Baptist Church. After retirement he drove a bus for the New Deal ISD for 6 years. He is survived by his wife Kathaleen Parks of New Deal, TX, 2 daughters, Anita Sanders and husband Don of Hart, TX and Melanie Parks of Lubbock, TX, 2 sons, Robert Wayne Parks of Pine City, MN and Michael Dwayne Parks and wife Patty of New Caney, TX, 5 grandchildren, Kristopher Parks, Tiffany Stavenhagen and husband Shayne, Jason Parks, Casey Parks and wife Deanna and Reece Parks, 4 great grandchildren, Tyler Parks, Taylor Parks, Brandon Parks and Slayton Stavenhagen, one brother, Earl Parks of Galveston, TX and 2 sisters, Patricia Moore and Sandra Giles both of Kaufman, TX. The family suggests memorials be sent to the New Deal Volunteer Fire Department, c/o City of New Deal, 404 S. Monroe, New Deal, TX 79350.
