Obituary of Billy Hughes

Services for Billy Gene Hughes, 82, of Canyon, TX and formerly of Eagle Nest, NM, will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, July 12, 2014, in the First Baptist Church, Abernathy, TX, with Rev. Mike O'Donnell, pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends at Abell Funeral Home, Friday from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Mr. Hughes died at his residence in Canyon, Wednesday, July 9, 2014. He was born February 9, 1932 in Abernathy, TX, to John Earnest and Hazel (Glasson) Hughes. He married Silverine Turner on April 9, 1950 in Abernathy. They lived in New Mexico and he was employed as Maintenance Superintendent at Philmont Boy Scout Ranch until his retirement in 2000. They moved to Canyon, TX in 2011. He was preceded in death by a sister, LaNelda Bridges. He is survived by his wife, Silverine Hughes of Canyon, 3 sons, Randall Hughes and wife Jody of Canyon, Ross Hughes and wife Jenny of Corpus Christi, TX and Steven Hughes and wife Trisha of Lubbock, TX, 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and a brother, Wendell Hughes and wife Ernestine of New Deal, TX.
