Services for Dan Spencer Wright, 83, of Abernathy, TX, were held at 10:00 am Wednesday, July 7, 2010, in the Abernathy Church of Christ with Steve Gauntt officiating. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. The family received friends at the Abernathy Church of Christ from 9:00 am until service time. Mr. Wright died Monday, July 5, 2010 in Plainview, TX. Dan Spencer Wright was born February 27, 1927 in View, TX and served in the United States Army in the 397th MP Battalion in Germany from July 1945 until February of 1947. Following his service in the Army, he married Nola Vallaree Ruminer on January 25, 1951 in Hermleigh, TX and they moved to Abernathy in 1953 from Eastland, TX. He was a member of the Church of Christ and had served as Deacon. He served on the Abernathy Chamber of Commerce Board, as well as other volunteer work. He retired from Diamond Shamrock, after 25 years, in 1982. Survivors include his wife, Vallaree Wright of Abernathy, TX, 2 children, Mona Redinger of Plainview, TX and Robin Wright and his wife Sheryl of Buffalo, TX, 3 grandchildren, Stacey Moore, Jennifer Leago and Brandy Wright and 3 great grandchildren, Tyler and Ayden Leago and Zachary Moore and 2 sisters, Ruby Floyd and Willie Hobbs. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Abernathy EMS, Box 310, Abernathy, TX 79311. Abell Funeral Home
