Services for Vivian Carmickle, 80, of Abernathy, TX, were held at 10:00 am Friday, June 13, 2008, in the First United Methodist Church, Abernathy. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mrs. Carmickle died Tuesday morning, June 10, 2008, in Lubbock, TX. She was born in Como, TX May 30, 1928and was the youngest of 11 children born to J. M. and Dovie Heflin. In 1933 the Heflin family moved to Plainview, TX. She married Lon Carmickle on January 5, 1949 in Plainview. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, was a member of the Eastern STar and was active in various bridge clubs over her 60 years as an Abernathy resident. The Carmickles owned and operated Lon Cleaners and Fashions. She always considered Abernathy her home. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, of almost 50 years, on September 23, 1998. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Nancy Carmickle Smith and Patti Carmickle Walsh and her husband Steve all of Lubbock, TX. One of her favorite joys in life was spending time with her beloved granchildren, Cherie Smith and Tamara Smith both of Lubbock, TX, Whitney Walsh of Fort Worth, TX, and Linc Walsh of Bettles, Alaska. She is also survived by her sister, Dorris Borum of Plainview, TX and many many special sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. The family suggests memeorial dontations be sent to the First United Methodist Church, 704 Ave. D, Abernathy, TX 79311 or a favorite charity. Abell Funeral Home
